Translation:
The fourteenth day of February in the year eighteen hundred seventy-two appeared before me Arend Daniel Johannes Theodorus Meijes, a notary in the first district of the province of Noord-Holland in Amsterdam, Mr. Jan de Bruyn, skipper, living within this city on the small Kattenburger street, known to me notary.
Who, declaring to wish to dispose of his estate and for that purpose having expressed to me notary in a businesslike way in the presence of the witnesses to be named, his last will which he had previously given to me notary and which I wrote down, as follows:
“I revoke and destroy all previous wills.”
“I appoint as my heir in everything, over which according to the law I shall have the power to freely dispose at my death, my present housewife, Neeltje Jellesse.”
“And I request and appoint my aforesaid housewife as the executix of this my last will and do so with the provision of all thereto necessary power, in particular that allowing the taking of my entire estate according to law.”
After the above testament by me notary in the presence of the witnesses to be named was read to the testator I asked him in the presence of the witnesses if what I had read to him contains his last will, whereupon he in the presence of the above answered affirmatively.
Done and transpired in Amsterdam in the office of me notary on the Kattenburgerplein, in the presence of Johannes Weers, funeral assistant, and Jurriaan Prins, without employment, both living within this city, the firstnamed in the Kerkstraat and the other in the small Kattenburger street, as witnesses along with the comparant (“appearer”, i.e. testator) and me notary, signed this last will directly after it was read to them.
